PC: Microsoft Teams Up With Packard Bell For Windows Smart Display

At CeBIT 2003 today, Microsoft Corp. announced that Packard Bell, the consumer division of NEC Computers International (NEC CI) and one of Europe's home PC leaders, is joining a growing number of industry-leading computer and display manufacturers worldwide in developing a Windows® Powered Smart Display. Packard Bell will develop a 10-inch Smart Display that will be available in Europe by the end of the first half of 2003. Smart Displays are wireless, touch-screen monitors that make it possible for consumers to use their Microsoft® Windows XP-based PC anywhere in the house.* . . .

WizKids Media announced today an
agreement with Hollywood screenwriter and producer Dean Devlin to
produce a movie based on the MechWarrior universe. Devlin has
produced films such as Stargate, Independence Day, Godzilla, The Patriot and
Eight Legged Freaks. Paramount Pictures is in negotiations to option
the property from WizKids for Devlin's Electric Entertainment. . .

The number of users of advanced games consoles soared by 128 percent in 2002, reaching 56.3 million worldwide, according to the latest research from Strategy Analytics' Broadband Entertainment Strategies service. 75 percent of users own Sony's PlayStation 2, compared to 13 percent with Nintendo's GameCube, and 12 percent with Microsoft's XBox.
Forecasts suggest GameCube will lose ground in 2003. According to the analysts, Nintendo could build a leading position in the $12 billion software market, but it must first abandon its present console strategy. . .
