Metroid Prime Review for GameCube
Posted on Thursday, March 20, 2003 @ 12:03:35 pm E.S.TSomething sinister is lurking in the depths of Planet Tallon IV. Interstellar bounty hunter Samus Aran is the only one who can destroy this evil, but he must find it first. Finally GameCube has a game that will make it sell, Metroid Prime is one of the best games out there for any console.
Graphics: At first you may not see what's so special about this games' visuals. Then as the game goes on, you'll notice little things that are presented with striking detail. For example, when you go into the water you will see the water streak across Samus' visor. You can see Samus' face reflect off her own visor when there is a sudden flash of light. To go along with all of this, Metroid Prime is progressive scan compatible.
Design: Metroid Prime is an extremely lengthy game, and it's obvious that it was well thought out. This game doesn't have levels, it's all one big world. There are six different parts to this huge world; Tallon Overworld, Chozo Ruins, Magmoor Caverns, Phendrana Drifts, Phazon Mines, and Impact Crater. The transition from one section to another is pretty easy using the 3D map. From going through chilly areas of ice, dreaded pools of fire, filthy caverns, and luxuriant tropics, Metroid Prime manages to combine these all well in a vast flawless 3D world.
To some, it may be an annoyance to go through one section to another so frequently. Metroid Prime is set up almost like Resident Evil, where you find yourself constantly going back and forth. Don't let this stop you from getting the game because if you stay patient, it will all be worth it.
Sound: You will immediately notice this games great sound effects. This game supports Dolby Surround Pro Logic II which will create crisp, clean sound through a surround sound system. The music in this game always fits in well with what section of the world you are in, but may seem repetetive after going through the sections several times. You will also notice there isn't any speaking at all in this game at all, but that won't bother you.
Addiction: This game will keep you on your toes for quite a while. The way the game is set up, when you get a new weapon or piece of equipment, you can go back and explore an area you weren't able to access before. There is so much to discover; so many weapons, so much equipment, tons of creatures and environments to find. As I said before the game is lengthy and will take you approximately 15 - 40 hours to beat. Review By: Jay Singh - 1824 Reads
