Pirates of the Burning Sea to Feature Accurate Vessels Posted on Wednesday, November 05, 2003 @ 02:55:10 pm E.S.T
Flying Lab Software today unveiled screenshots and well-researched histories behind two of its twenty-two historically accurate ships. With up to 350,000 polygons per ship, these vessels showcase all of the amazing details found on the actual ships. Screen shots and information on these ocean vessels can be found on the company website (http://www.flyinglab.com/pirates/catalog/ship.php), along with more information on the game and community forums.
Like all characters in RPGs, each ship has strengths and weaknesses. Due to the intricate construction and historical function of these boats, there are numerous strategic ways players can use the ship’s features to take advantage of the game’s real-time tactical naval combat system, dynamic trading economy and global player vs. player gameplay.
Flying Lab Software, known for its award-winning Rails Across America, will be releasing their online ocean action/adventure in Spring 2004. Using Valve Software’s Steam broadband distribution technology, players will be able to start playing the game immediately upon its release. Using Steam, Pirates of the Burning Sea is automatically kept up-to-date with the latest content and revisions..
“At Flying Lab, we place a great emphasis on getting things right – compelling and fun gameplay, detailed and stunning graphics, all centered around a strong game engine. That’s why we chose online distribution as it allows us to focus on the foundation of the game first and then add on as our community grows,” said Russell Williams, co-founder of Flying Lab Software.
The game will start out with the entire Windward and Leeward island chains to explore and fight for, everything from Puerto Rico down to Grenada. Each island is modeled with endless ports, islands and cays.
Game Setting
The year is 1720, and the New World that was just discovered by Columbus has become a battleground. The 3 great powers of the day – Spain, England, and France – are vying for control of the valuable islands of the Caribbean. Centuries of European grudges and intrigue now play out in the churning waters of the Burning Sea, where valiant naval captains, savvy merchants and rapacious pirates battle it out for riches and reputations.
