CodeWarrior Development Studio for the Sony 'PSP' Now Available

Posted on Friday, September 24, 2004 @ 01:29:38 pm E.S.T

Developers can now create game titles for the innovative Sony Computer Entertainment "PSP(TM)" platform with a development solution from Metrowerks designed to speed game creation and fully leverage the platform's hardware.

Metrowerks, a subsidiary of Freescale Semiconductor, Inc., will demonstrate the features and capabilities of CodeWarrior(TM) Development Studio for PSP(TM), Version 1.0 at the Tokyo Games Show 2004 on Saturday, September 25, 2004.

Available immediately, the studio simplifies game title creation by offering:

  • a stable, market-proven compiler that enables the creation of compact, high-quality object code;
  • support for Sony Computer Entertainment's communication protocol;
  • the ability to work within either the native CodeWarrior development environment or the Visual Studio.NET environment, and
  • a C/C++ debugger that provides an intuitive graphic interface for flexible and accurate code visualization.
"Metrowerks has released many products for a variety of platforms, and we are glad to now hear that Metrowerks has added "PSP(TM)" support to its product line," said Tohru Ogawa, group leader of the Technical Group, Contents & Technology Company at NAMCO LTD. "The `PSP(TM)' platform presents a major opportunity for NAMCO in the games market, and we think CodeWarrior will play a significant role in helping us maximize this opportunity."

"CodeWarrior's distinct features include its precise, stable behavior and its user-friendly interface," said Makoto Yamaguchi, production support manager at Konami Computer Entertainment Studios, Inc. "The fact that CodeWarrior runs with such stability on a brand new platform really distinguishes it from other development tools. Metrowerks has done a great job with the CodeWarrior tools for the `PSP(TM)' platform, and now it's our turn to create great titles that capture the industry's attention."
