Precise Model of Iraq Combat Area in Kuma\War

Posted on Friday, August 13, 2004 @ 11:47:32 pm E.S.T

Kuma\War, the computer video game which re-creates real war events weeks after they occur has released its most precise mission map to date in al Qaeda: The Battle for Mosul. Using advanced game tools, extensive research and satellite imagery, Kuma\War today released an accurate replica of the area in Iraq in which US Army troops repelled an al Qaeda attack as a playable computer video game. The computer video game is available for free download at http://www.kumawar.com .

In the newest mission from Kuma\War players enter the scene on June 24, 2004, as Mosul is rocked by a series of car and truck bombs that leave more than 100 people dead and 300 wounded. It is part of a countrywide assault on the Iraqi government by insurgents loyal to al Qaeda associate Abu Musab al Zarqawi.

The Iraqi National Guard receives word that the terrorists have taken over the Sheik Fatih police station, and as they attempt to recapture it, they are repulsed by gunfire coming from a mosque across the street. The Strykers are once again called in. The men from Blackhawk Company of the 1st Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment -- a Stryker brigade combat team -- fight their way through the gunfire in an intense, hour-long battle, and take back the police station. Iraqi troops then move in and clear the mosque.

Though Coalition forces begin a counterattack that lasts for days and arrest 27 suspects, Zarqawi escapes. The reward for information leading to Zarqawi’s capture now stands at $25 million dollars.

“There is simply no better way for ordinary citizens to understand events like these than through computer video game software,” said Keith Halper, CEO Kuma Reality Games. “In this event, the strategic position of the mosque, the timing of the attack, the capabilities of the Stryker are elements in a complex battlefield that is difficult for the layman to visualize. Our accurate re-creations help make complex military actions comprehensible to the American public.”

al Qaeda: The Battle for Mosul occurs both indoors at the Iraqi police station and outdoors in the streets of Mosul, creating an excellent opportunity for experienced computer video game players to work together online in Kuma’s multiplayer environment. Kuma also provides regular scheduled online multiplayer events, perfect for beginning players to learn from the Kuma staff and growing legions of players.

The Kuma\War online game service is available for free download and players can demo the game online at http://www.kumawar.com or purchase a subscription for only $9.99 monthly. As a salute to the men and women in uniform who have served their countries, Kuma Reality Games will donate $1 of all paid subscriptions to The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, which was created to assist the families of the nation's fallen heroes killed in duty.
