iFone to Use Tira Jump for Mobile Game Porting

Posted on Wednesday, June 02, 2004 @ 07:37:08 pm E.S.T

Mobile Entertainment Market-Tira Wireless, a provider of enabling technology for the J2ME(TM) marketplace, today announced that iFone(TM), a global leader in wireless entertainment, has selected the Tira Jump solution to port its mobile games, including classic Atari arcade titles and the ever-popular Hasbro board games. The Tira Jump solution, which automates the porting of J2ME games and applications across multiple devices, languages and operator customizations, provides iFone with time to market, cost and quality benefits.

iFone owns the wireless rights to the Atari catalogue of titles, giving iFone access to a wide array of instantly recognisable brand properties including the world famous Atari arcade brand, the mass market Hasbro board game brands, and the Atari next generation brands. iFone offers a catalogue of over 300 titles, many of which are available for the wireless market.

"In today's fast paced mobile games market, we have to very quickly respond to demand for our titles, ensuring they work across a broad range of handsets and are localised for different markets and operators," said Greg Robinson, Development Director at iFone. "Without Jump we would have to manually create hundreds of builds. Tira Jump automates that process and gives us the ability to meet market demands quickly and cost effectively."

While the J2ME standard ensures run time environments are consistent across devices, the numerous idiosyncrasies that exist outside of the Java specification require that all J2ME applications be tailored to each device. Tira's patent-pending Jump technology solves this by automatically generating multiple builds of a mobile Java game across a broad range of handsets, languages and mobile operator requirements, all from a single reference application. This ability reduces porting time from weeks to days and ensures consistency and quality across multiple handsets. The Tira Jump platform now supports close to 100 different Java enabled devices with more being added each month.

"iFone offers one of the most attractive and recognisable portfolios of mobile games in the world," said Matt Golden, VP of Business Development and Co-Founder of Tira Wireless. "By using the automated Tira Jump platform, iFone can ensure that its great games from brands like Atari and Hasbro are available on some of the latest and most sophisticated devices, and can be enjoyed by even more avid fans."
