"Painkiller" Selected for Two Premier Industry E-Sports Shows

Posted on Wednesday, May 12, 2004 @ 07:45:04 pm E.S.T

DreamCatcher Games and Ligarena today announced a Painkiller “Masters” Tournament as part of the 2004 Electronic Sports World Cup (ESWC) finals at the Futuroscope, July 6th to 11th, in Poitiers, France. Released globally in April, Painkiller is the PC Shooter that everyone is talking about.

This extraordinary tournament assembles 16 international players in a 1-on-1 Deathmatch tournament with a cash prize of $10.000 USD. Tournament monies to be divided as follows:

1st Prize: $5.000
2nd Prize: $3.000
3rd Prize: $1.000
4th Prize: $1.000

The tournament finals will take place on the main stage, and will be broadcast live with full commentary by journalists and event speakers.

The ESWC groups together 600 champions from 44 different countries for the first live televised, e-sports worldwide show. More than 40,000 visitors are expected at the Futuroscope throughout the event. A “Painkiller” game zone offers visitors free access to the games single-player and multiplayer throughout the event.

A free “Painkiller” multiplayer game zone will also be open to public during the French Finals of the Electronic Sports French Cup, organised by LIGARENA, May 29th to 30th in the “Carrousel du Louvre” in Paris. Champions must submit their resume, with results of previous FPS competitions, to Ligarena for review by the World Cup Organising Committee.

“Painkiller is the new benchmark of 2004 for all e-sports players and event organisers,” says Matthieu Dallon, CEO of LIGARENA. “The multiplayer is more than a game; it’s a dream come true.”

“We are excited at the addition of Painkiller to the Electronic Sports World Cup,” says Richard Wah Kan, CEO of DreamCatcher. “We are continuously adding new elements to multiplayer, and we are honoured by the warm welcome from these talented FPS pros.”
