Konami Showcases "Silent Hill 4: The Room" at E3 2004

Posted on Wednesday, May 12, 2004 @ 04:57:57 am E.S.T

LOS ANGELES - Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) Booth #800 - May 12, 2004 - Konami Digital Entertainment - America, a division of Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc., today showcased Silent Hill 4: The Room™ for the PlayStation® 2 computer entertainment system, the Xbox® video game system from Microsoft and PC DVD-ROM. Produced by Akira Yamaoka and the creative development team at Konami Computer Entertainment Tokyo, the new title in the hit series continues to push the envelope in the survival-horror genre inspiring fear in players' hearts and homes.

"Silent Hill 4 dives inside the physical and mental space of gamers to create the most terrifying game in the series," said Wilson Cheng, product manager at Konami Digital Entertainment - America. "There is no escaping the fear sparked by the hideous creatures, creepy environments and mysterious characters when you are trapped with them in your very own room."

Silent Hill 4: The Room begins in the sleepy town of South Ashfield, only a few short miles from Silent Hill. When the game's new hero, Henry Townshend awakens from a nightmare, he finds that he cannot leave his apartment. The door to the outside is heavily chained and boarded shut. Sounds emanate from the bathroom, but when he goes to investigate he notices a strange tunnel that will inevitably lead him directly into the heart of darkness.

Driven to deliver a frightful entertainment experience that is as scary as it is gratifying, the unsettling narrative of Silent Hill 4: The Room strikes fear in the hearts of its players. Traveling between the real world and a haunted alternate world, players will be forced to unravel a twisted mystery by deciphering a series of often-perplexing puzzles and clues. Adding further intimacy to the gameplay experience is the title's new 1st-person viewpoint within the real world and its 3rd-person viewpoint in the haunted alternate world. When the blood-curdling tale invades the privacy and sanctity of their home, players will likely find that the lifelike visuals will inspire real-life nightmares and nights filled with restless sleep.

Silent Hill 4: The Room is slated for release in September 2004.

About the Silent Hill Series of games and franchise information
Konami's Silent Hill® franchise first debuted on the PlayStation® in 1999, and established the series' brand of psychological horror. It went on to sell over a million units and is considered one of the scariest games of all time. The follow up sequel, Silent Hill® 2, was equally well received and praised for its use of new 3D sound technology that added a new dimension to gameplay. Silent Hill® 3 was released with critical acclaim for PlayStation® 2 in August 2003 and is considered to be the best game in the series. The Silent Hill® franchise has also expanded into other entertainment genres including a major motion picture and comic series. French production company Davis Films will produce the feature film adaptation of the hit franchise for worldwide release and IDW will adapt the Silent Hill® franchise into a comic series starting in February 2004.
